Overview
Wanderer-1 is a single-player voice-puzzle game. In this game, the player needs to identify the ascending sequence of five sounds with different pitch made by instruments, input these sounds with different sequence and combinations to manipulate the spaceship, and navigate the spaceship to the final destination: homeland Earth.
Responsibilities
Some of my responsibilities include:
  • Design all game systems and mechanics.
  • Program all codes.

Design Goal & Reflection
Goal: create a simple voice-puzzle game around a solid core mechanic
Reflection: Wanderer-1 has only one straightforward and simple player input: click button, but players are having fun clicking buttons, hearing more sounds from different instruments, and identifying different sound pitches.

Goal: provide enjoyable audio experience through the gameplay
Reflection: another reason that keeps players' interesting is that the instruments we chose for the games together feel harmony yet also distinct from each other, so that players feel fresh and are exciting about what instrument will come next. Together, instruments in the game provide players an audio experience with different fresh layers that sound harmony to each other.

Goal: create a game that barely needs visuals
Reflection: the players do focus on the audio gameplay of the game and feel satisfied with the limited visual representation of the space trip on the spaceship's panel.
Game Iteration & Design Process
At first, I planned to add more inputs and combinations in the game and more actions to the spaceship. However I decided to simplify the input system and reduce the amount of actions the player can do because first, we don't have enough time to build more content, second, I want to keep the gameplay simple and audio-focused.
What's more, I also used to design the audio output system in a way that all inputs made by the player can compose a song and play that song in the end of the game. However, that design makes the sound system too limited and fixed for the player, which makes the game boring quickly and discourages player's agencies in exploration of the sound  input system.
